Wow, this is what I call ‘Reach of Technology’ for basic and least daily needs. It’s been over a decade, I traveled using Pune’s public transport. Last time I used PMT (now PMPML) was in the year 2000.
I resigned from my earlier company that time and after clearance I didn’t have the company’s private bus pass to reach home. I took PMT and got home. That was it. (There had been many issues with public transport in Pune but let’s not get into it now.)
Later things kept changing so much that I lost track of Bus routes, numbers to the desired destination. And I also did not make any attempt to know them either.
On January 3rd, Google Transit launched public transport information for Pune’s PMPML, Delhi’s Metro Railway and in Bangalore. They are soon launching this service for other major Indian cities including Chennai. Since I am living in Pune, I am writing about it.
I quickly went to the site and found out how to reach Hinjewadi from Deccan (My official site)
How would the Google Transit work for commuters of Pune’s PMPML
As Google Maps provide integrated services like local information, driving directions for commuters, with Transit, Pune PMPML commuters would be able to receive information in the following way:
- The user searches for information to reach from Place A to B on Google Maps
- The result shows a map with the possible route and driving directions for the commuter
- By choosing the transit option, commuters would get first hand information on Pune’s routes and schedules
- Commuters get to see the step by step directions for the entire route, including frequency, travel duration for each leg of the trip in text and on the map.
You can get bus routes to any destination with numbers, directions, stops for PMPML
I think this surely will help many people who do not use public transport just because they do not know how to use it.
Want to try it? Go ahead and search on Google Transit. I am eager to know your thoughts.
