Google is changing search result pages by adding author info and picture to let users discover great relative content. This feature is getting rolled out gradually and ranking are implemented algorithmically, therefore author info won’t show up in every search results.
Update: Google has just rewarded me by adding my author information on search results. You too can have it for your website. Follow the steps mentioned below.
Adding your Google+ profile URL and picture definitely has its benefits
- Googlers can see your picture and public profile
- It shows that you’re human and social
- Hence, this may lead them to click on your website or blog link than other search results.
Like this:

Step 1: Create and edit Google+ profile
If you’re using any of the Google products like Gmail then you already have a Google+ profile. If not, then create one. Make sure the picture you’re using on G+ profile is clear enough to identify your face and you’re human. Don’t use pets, cars or celebrity pictures. Those won’t get you in Google results for sure.
- Go to http://profiles.google.com/me/plusones
- Click Edit Profile

- Check the Show this tab on my profile checkbox

Step 2: Associate website / blog content with Google+ profile
It is important to have two-way links between a website or blog and Google profile so that you can get authorship of the same content in Google results. For this, you need to create an author link to your Google+ profile on your page. Choose to place this link in footer, author pages or on individual blog articles. Like, these days many blogs have author information box below every article. Check mine on this page by scrolling down.
Now, create a link to your profile. Remember, the link must have ‘+’ in anchor text along with a profile URL including the numbers. You can use something like +(Your name) or simply use Google+
![]()
<a href="https://plus.google.com/109412257237874861202?rel=author">Google+</a>
This can be used under your WordPress, Blogger user profiles or any plugins used to show author information.
Step 3: Associate website with your Google+ Profile
Add link to your website in Contributor section by editing Google+ profile.

Step 4: Tell Google about the changes
You must fill out this official form to let Google know you’ve followed the instructions and make necessary changes for your website.
Step 5: Be patient
These changes might take long time to take effect. So wait patiently for changes to take effect. Google will do it as promised if all the steps are correctly followed. 🙂
You can also use various WordPress (Yoast SEO plugin), Drupal or other CMS plugins to easily add Google Authorship for your website. or a blog.

Nice article. However you do not need to put the ‘+’ in the anchor tag. Perhaps Google has changed this requirement:

I got mine today buddy!! Thanks for the post.
thanks Tushar for the nice article, it got me started, I’m anxious to see how long it will take for google to recognize my authorship. By the way, you can provide authorship via email as well.
@SiteBuilder You’re most welcome. It shouldn’t take much long. A week max. 🙂
How many days will it generally take to show the image on the search result.
@mn.vamsi It took about 3 weeks time. You may get it sooner. We never know. Keep checking search results because Google will not send any notification about it if implemented.
Hope this helps 🙂
