iOS 27.2: Release Date, New Features and Should You Update?

If you’ve been waiting for the next iPhone update after iOS 27, it’s iOS 27.2, not 27.1. Apple is keeping iOS 27.1 for the new iPhone Duo, which launches on October 23. iOS 27.2 is the update coming to everyone else.

It’s still in testing, but Apple has said what it’s aiming for, and the betas show most of what’s coming. This guide is based on the beta versions and will be updated when Apple releases iOS 27.2.

When Is iOS 27.2 Coming Out?

Apple hasn’t announced a date. Here’s what we know:

  • Apple said at the iOS 27 launch in September that Siri AI would get new languages “next month.” Those languages are part of iOS 27.2, which points to an October release.
  • Apple released the third developer beta on October 5 and the second public beta on October 6.
  • iOS 27.1 ships only on the iPhone Duo on October 23, and 27.2 is widely expected to follow shortly after, most likely in the last week of October.

Apple’s first big update after a major iOS release usually lands in late October, so that timing fits the usual pattern.

Why Did Apple Skip iOS 27.1?

It didn’t skip it, exactly. iOS 27.1 exists, but only on the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable. It includes the software the Duo needs for its folding screen. Every other iPhone goes straight from iOS 27.0.x to iOS 27.2.

What’s New in iOS 27.2

Siri AI in Five More Languages

The headline change: Siri AI, Apple’s new, more capable Siri, gets support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Until now it worked only in English.

You still need a compatible iPhone: the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, any iPhone 16 or later, or the iPhone Air. And there’s no Hindi or other Indian language in this round, so Indian users who want Siri AI will still need to use it in English.

A Redesigned Health App (US English Only)

The Health app gets its biggest overhaul in years, with new Insights, Longevity and Browse tabs. The betas include a Health Age estimate and camera-based fitness checks.

The catch: Apple has made the new Health app available only in US English for now. If your iPhone is set to another region or language, including English (India), you’ll likely keep the current Health app.

Call Context: Anniversary Reminders During Calls

If a contact has an anniversary saved in Contacts, the Phone app now shows a small reminder while you’re on a call with them. It’s a small touch, but useful if you’re the kind of person who remembers the day after.

Apple TV Profiles on iPhone

You can now create and switch between profiles in the Apple TV app on iPhone and iPad. Child profiles default to PG content, which helps if your kids use your devices.

Group FaceTime Gets Dual Capture

Group FaceTime calls can now use dual capture, showing you and what’s in front of you at the same time.

Smaller Changes

  • Siri, Search and suggestions: a new Excluded Apps setting lets you hide several apps from Siri, Search and suggestions at once.
  • CarPlay Ultra: new themes control the wallpaper, gauge style and colours in supported cars.
  • Podcasts: Up Next is renamed New Episodes, with Continue Playing just below it.
  • Clock and Music: minor design tweaks, such as smaller AM and PM labels on alarms.
  • In the EU: changes to how apps ask permission to track you across other apps, required in some countries.

Beta features sometimes change or get delayed before release. We’ll update this list when Apple publishes the final release notes.

Should You Update to iOS 27.2?

For most people, yes, but not necessarily on day one.

Point updates like this nearly always include security fixes, and our September patch guide explains why those matter. Apple also fixed the iPhone 18 Pro restart problem in an earlier update, so if you’ve been holding back on iOS 27 because of early bugs, 27.2 is a sensible point to move up.

A sensible plan:

  • Update within a week if you want Siri AI in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish, or you’re in the US and want the new Health app.
  • Wait a few days if you rely on your iPhone for work, banking or travel. Let early reports confirm there are no big bugs.
  • Update promptly if Apple’s release notes mention security fixes for actively exploited flaws. That’s the one case where waiting isn’t worth it.

Before you update, make sure you have a recent backup in iCloud or on your computer, and that your battery is above 50% or plugged in.

How to Install iOS 27.2

When it’s released, go to Settings, then General, then Software Update. If you have Automatic Updates turned on, your iPhone will install it on its own, usually overnight while charging.

If you can’t wait, you can join Apple’s free public beta program and get iOS 27.2 now, but beta software can be buggy. Don’t install it on the phone you depend on every day.

Quick Answers

When will iOS 27.2 be released?

Apple hasn’t announced a date, but it’s expected in late October 2026, shortly after the iPhone Duo launches on October 23. Apple has said new Siri AI languages arrive in October.

Why is there no iOS 27.1 for my iPhone?

iOS 27.1 ships only on the iPhone Duo. Every other iPhone will go straight to iOS 27.2.

Does iOS 27.2 bring Siri AI in Hindi?

No. The betas add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Siri AI in India still works in English.

Will I get the new Health app in India?

Probably not yet. Apple has made the redesigned Health app available only in US English for now.

Which iPhones get iOS 27.2?

iOS 27.2 should come to every iPhone that runs iOS 27. Siri AI features need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, any iPhone 16 or newer, or the iPhone Air.

Should I install the iOS 27.2 beta?

Only on a spare device. Beta software can have bugs and battery problems. Most people should wait for the final release, expected in a few weeks.

Bottom Line

iOS 27.2 is the first proper update to iOS 27 for most iPhones, bringing Siri AI to five more languages, a redesigned Health app in the US, and a handful of useful smaller changes. Indian users get less than most, since Siri AI isn’t coming in Hindi yet and the new Health app is US-only. Still, install it when it arrives in late October, after a short wait if your phone is critical to your work, because it will carry the latest security fixes
