Google Transit: Expanding & raising Public Transport awareness in India

Its been just over 6 months since Pune’s public transportation was made available on Google Transit along with Delhi Metro and Bangalore. Google partnered with PMPML for Pune, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the source of updated information.

Now, Google Transit is also providing public transport information to cities like Chennai & Hyderabad to help transport agencies spread awareness, reduce pollution, traffic congestion in India.

You can check my earlier post about getting PMPML bus routes in Pune here.

Public Transport information for Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad is available on Google Maps Transit  and Google Maps for Mobile

Google Transit: Expanding & raising Public Transport awareness in India

According to Google India blog post
“The launch of the local bus information service in Chennai and Hyderabad will not just help millions of commuters and visitors in the metros to explore public transportation options as they search for directions or locations, but also encourage alternatives to driving. This information is available both on Google Maps and Google Maps for mobile, enabling users to access the service even while on the move.”

Continued expansion in providing public transport in India, Google seems to be very much committed to the cause and we can expect more cities of India added in this list in days to come.

Now – since the communication, schedules is taken care of by Google through their web services – it’s the corporations responsibility to provide infrastructure and to take public transportation to the next level.

And, next time if you plan to visit these cities in India – you already know what to do – just Google it 🙂
