As you know Dev-Team confirmed the tethered jailbreak for newly announced iOS 5 which has more than 200 features and 1500 APIs in the box to offer. Today 10th June was the last day at WWDC and Dev-Team chose this day to release the Jailbreak.
Before we go ahead please note that, this is tethered only jailbreak and iOS 5 beta should not be installed by iPhones depend on unlock. It’s good to go for Cydia app developers having Apple Developer account with registered UDIDs. It can be installed on iPhone 3GS on 06.15.00 baseband but then unlock is not available. It is only available for MAC and not for Windows.
This Redsn0w will also not hactivate the phone and you will have to choose ‘boot tethered only’ from the options.
Points to Note
According to Dev-Team blog post
UNLOCKERS AND THOSE PRESERVING THEIR UNLOCKABLE BASEBANDS SHOULD STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS! You will very likely lose your unlockable baseband if you try to install iOS 5.
THIS JAILBREAK IS INTENDED ONLY FOR DEVELOPERS OF JAILBROKEN APPS! There are just too many broken components (Apple’s official apps, 3rd-party App Store apps, Cydia apps, MobileSubstrate apps, etc) for this to be useful to anyone but those truly looking to fix bugs in their iOS 5 jailbroken apps. (Seriously!)
- iPod touch 3G
- iPod touch 4G
- iPad 1
- iPhone4 (GSM)
- iPhone4 (CDMA)
As you can see, there is no iPhone 3G in the list. iPhone 3G is not supported to use iOS 4.3.3 & iOS 5 onwards
People having the iPad baseband 06.15 on 3GS should be able to get past the iTunes error while using stock iOS 5 Beta 1 IPSW using Redsn0w but such users should also needs to be using official carriers because there is no unlock possible.
It’s recommonded that to keep the iOS 5 Beta 1 handy which will be required by future redsn0w version for when you need to update future iOS Beta versions
Download link for Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 for Mac is available on Dev-Team blog.
It is possible to jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 2 via Redsn0w similar to Beta 1. You just need to point at Beta 1 IPSW in Redsn0w.
I could not understand as yet that. if there is no need of a cord for activation (PC free activation & wireless sync is available in new 200 features) then I am not sure how a tethered jailbreak will work.
But yes, do not try to install & jailbreak iOS 5 if you don’t know what you’re doing 🙂
