We know Apple recently launched iPad 2 & iOS 4.3. I tried to cover things to know about iPad 2 before you buy in my earlier post. In this post I am covering things to know about iOS 4.3 before you install, jailbreak and unlock.

iPad 2 is all set to be available in stores of US from March 11, 2011 and will be available in following countries from March 25, 2011: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Ireland, Hungary, Japan, Luxemborg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK. Sadly, India is not listed in these counties.

iOS 4.3 too was scheduled to be available for download through iTunes from March 11 but Apple made it available through iTunes well before its schedule. This OS is mainly targeted for iPad 2 but is also available for iPhone & iPod touch.

Lets get a quick walk through about iOS 4.3 features.

In my opinion, Safari’s improved performance and Personal Hotspot for iPhone 4 are the major features of this version.

But even without 4.3 it is possible to create a personal hotspot if your iOS device is jailbroken and you have MyWi installed on it. Doesn’t matter if you have iPhone 4, or 3GS.

iOS 4.3 Features

More ways to AirPlay.
Get even more play out of AirPlay — the wireless technology that lets you stream content from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your HDTV via Apple TV.1 In addition to music, movies, and photos, AirPlay now streams video from your Photos app. So you can shoot a home video and instantly share it with everyone in the room. Even AirPlay-enabled apps and websites get the big-screen treatment with iOS 4.3. And if your photos are the feature presentation, you can play a slideshow with all the stunning themes available on Apple TV.

Safari Performance
Surf at the speed of fast. As you surf the web, your fingers will love the responsiveness of the new Nitro JavaScript engine powering Safari. It runs JavaScript up to twice as fast as in iOS 4.2.2 Which means you get more speed behind each page load. And sites with lots of interactive features can appear on your screen even faster.

iTunes Home Sharing
Share over the air. Now you can play your entire iTunes library from anywhere in the house. If it’s on your Mac or PC, you can play it on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch over a shared Wi-Fi network.3 And not just music. Watch a movie or TV show. Play a podcast. Or listen to an audiobook. On whichever device you want — without having to download or sync.

iPad Side Switch
Switch it up. Customize the switch on the side of your iPad to lock the screen rotation or mute the volume. So you can lock your iPad display in landscape or portrait. Or quickly go from volume on to volume off. Just configure the side switch in Settings to toggle between your options.

Personal Hotspot for iPhone 4
Get online in more places. On the road, in an airport, at the park — now you can bring Wi-Fi with you wherever you go. Download iOS 4.3 on your iPhone 4, and the next time you find yourself without access to Wi-Fi but in 3G territory, enable Personal Hotspot and share your cellular data connection with your Mac, PC, iPad, or other Wi-Fi-capable device. You can share your connection with up to five devices at once over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB — with up to three of those connections using Wi-Fi.4 Every connection is password protected and secure. And it’s power friendly, too. iPhone detects when your Personal Hotspot is no longer in use and turns it off to save battery life.

iOS 4.3 Fine Print

  • AirPlay feature is only compatible with Apple TV 2nd Generation.
  • Safari’s improved performance is checked by Apple in February 2011 using SunSpider JavaScript benchmark version 0.9.1
  • You need to have iTunes 10.2 installed on your computer to use iTunes Home Sharing & Syncing your iOS 4.3 device.
  • Personal Hotspot features requires an Internet Tethering plan from your carrier. Please check with your carrier for its availability, settings & prices.
  • You can use up to 3 Wi-Fi, 3 Bluetooth and 1 USB device with Personal Hotspot feature.
  • Requires an AirPrint-enabled printer. See a list of compatible printers.

iOS 4.3 Jailbreak & Unlock

People using jailbroken and unlocked iPhones should not upgrade their OS to continue using their unlocked & jailbroken iPhones. At this point of time only tethered jailbreak method is available which means that you will have to connect your phone to USB first every time you reboot it. This is a very inconvenient method to use.

Untethered Jailbreak (most handy) tools such as Pwnage Tool, Sn0wbreeze, Redsn0w will be available only after Apple release the next update of their IOS 4.3.1. There is no unlock available for iOS 4.3. So it is good to stay away from this version if you’re using ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone.

iOS 4.3 SHSH Blobs

It is important for all jailbreak and unlock users to save their iDevice’s SHSH blobs on Cydia. Remember to keep doing this with every new version of iOS. To do this you need to download TinyUmbrella software which is a great handy tool. You can download it for Windows or Mac.

I would suggest to do it right away while you’re reading this post.

Plan Of Action

Do not upgrade to iOS 4.3 if you want to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad. Be patient & wait until Dev-Team releases next versions of their great tools. Hope this helps. Enjoy.
