Sony enters the tablet war by revealing their two Android Honeycomb powered touch tablets named Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P. Both of these devices were first announced few months back as S1 and S2 but no information was revealed after that.
This Japanese giant unexpectedly entered very late in the game where Apple iPad is one and half-year old where as Samsung Galaxy Tab is almost a year old.
Sony Tablet S will compete against powerful warriors like iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 750, HTC Flyer and BlackBerry PlayBook, Motorola Xoom among other less popular ones. Sony Tablet P will compete against Samsung Galaxy Note in terms of size but I don’t see any competition in both these devices because Galaxy Note is way better.
As reported by several sources, the hardware used in both of these devices are not impressive compared to the power offered by iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Motorola Xoom. The outer case material used for both of these tablets are too much of plastic hence the overall appeal is not attractive compared to the price at which they’re available.
Sony Tablet S is priced at similar to iPad 2 but doesn not offer significant hardware power as any other leading touch tablets in the market.
The only positive points to distinguish these tablets are Sony Tablet S is world’s first ever tablet to offer Infra-Red powered universal remote which can be used to remotely control almost any device that supports IR including Television, Projectors, DVD Players etc. while Sony Tablet P, folds like a clamshell. Both of these devices offer access to some of the classic PSone and PSP games on it.
I do not understand the reason for providing IR remote feature on a tablet of 9.4″ size. They should have done this to their mobiles phones which are more likely usable and handy as a remote. Isn’t it? 🙂
S tablet has a unique curvy design on one side of it, which resembles a folded-back magazine and hence is easier to hold and grip with one hand.

Well, I am done with it just when, I was impressed by the design. If you’re Sony fan then it will be available from mid September or else Galaxy Tab 10.1″, HTC Flyer and Galaxy Note are the best bet at the moment in this war.
