Finally, after an unexpectedly a prolonged waiting, Samsung has launched its new Samsung Galaxy Tab S with AMOLED display. It’s going to be really good & finally I would love to upgrade one of my old tabs with this one. This new Galaxy S tab comes in two sizes, 8.4 inches or 10.5 inches & both these sizes offer two more variations as WiFi-only & WiFi+Cellular & another two for the internal storage. Let’s look at some features & specifications.
The new tabs are powered either with Exynos 5 Octa or Snapdragon 801 processor where the latter is mostly likely to be available on LTE devices. So, I don’t think Snapgragon 801 will be available in the Indian market yet.
The display resolution of the new Galaxy Tab 4 is 2560×1600 on a 8.4 & 10.5 inch AMOLED screen, 16GB or 32GB internal storage, expandable up to 128GB using a MicroSD card. Clearly, both have almost the same specs despite the size variation.
The next one is a battery, the 8.4 inch tab comes with 4900 mAh & the 10.5 inch tablet comes with a 7900 mAh battery power. This is probably the only main difference between these two models.
8MP primary camera & 2MP front camera, 6.6mm thickness, Android 4.4 Kitkat are some of the other common specifications for both.
Features wise, the software is pretty much the same as the Pro Tabs, including the proprietary TouchWiz UI with Multi Window feature, but except, a couple of new additions as follows:
- Fingerprint (S Fingerprint) reading ability embedded into the Home button, for enhanced security
- This also provides additional security while making payments through PayPal etc.
- SideSync – manage & control your Android phone in another window, right from the tablet itself.
- Up to 8 user profiles can be crated including fingerprint scanning, home screens
Overall look & feel of the new tablets is carrying same design cues from the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S5 phone. I would have liked to see a leather-like texture & stitching design, which looks much more awesome than on the phones, leading to some disappointment for me but shouldn’t be a big issue for an upgrade.

The price for 8.4 WiFi model is $400 & 10.5 inches tab is $500. The more details for each model is awaited but the price for Indian market would start from INR 28,000 to INR 38, 000 for different variations, whenever they’re scheduled for the release.
India release & price
The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Tab S will be available for purchase from second week of July. The 10 inch Galaxy Tabs S price in India is INR 44,500, & the 8 inches Galaxy Tab S price is INR 37, 800. Both the models have WiFi & 3G connectivity with calling feature.
It’s yet again shocking to see Samsung putting their products in such a higher price band. Yes, the new tabs surely have premium hardware & features, but still . . compared to the US market, these prices are too high.
Those were the details for newly launched Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 – 8.4” & 10.5” models. Will you be upgrading your Android tablet to these? What do you think? Let us know through the comments below
