Samsung unveiled yet another upgrade to their flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S5 in India today. The phone was first announced during the MWC 2014 last month & is powered with Android KitKat 4.4.2
Like yesteryear, Samsung has launched yet another biggie first in India as it is their main market to focus on. Samsung is the largest selling mobile brand in India by selling the widest range of mobile phones, from the low-budget phones to high-end phones.
Samsung has sold over 35 million Galaxy series devices only in India & the number is growing by every new device launched in the market. There’re five key factors in choosing the smart phone: Design, Camera, Speed & multitasking, Staying fit & Life, said the country head of Samsung India.
Key Features of Galaxy S5
Modern & glam design: The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a modern, trendy design that will appeal to most of its consumers. Samsung this time decided to use perforated back plate instead of the leather-like textured back cover which I did like. Also, the Galaxy S5 comes in more colors such as; Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue & Copper Gold.
Powerful, fastest camera ever: Galaxy S5 has featured the fastest camera ever on any Galaxy series phones having 0.3 seconds auto-focus with a 16 megapixel lens & the most-advanced HDR capabilities. The camera app interface & menu is also improved for easier use, edit & sharing. The selective focus feature of this new phone allows one to focus on one object & blur out the background, which otherwise was only possible using a separate specialized mobile camera lens.
True Octa-core processor: This new Galaxy is running on a true Octa-core in which, all the 8 cores are running simultaneously to offer a superior performance even when you’re multitasking.
Water & Dust resistant: Galaxy S5 as expected is a dust & water-resistant with the industry standard classification of IP67. This is same as the waterproof Galaxy S4 which the company launched last year. What’s interesting to note is that, SONY Z1 & ZR are using IP57 & 58 respectively.
Samsung Knox: Galaxy S5 & also their upcoming lineup will come with the new enterprise security feature called Knox. This will help users keep their personal & professional data secured while these are still kept separate from each other. Samsung Knox is the next enterprise mobile security platform that evolves with the dynamic BYOD movement. Looks like Samsung is seriously looking at the enterprise customers after Android for enterprises was announced earlier.
Ultra power saving mode: Battery power has always been the pain for all of us, especially the ones using high-end phones with large screens. However, Samsung is confident of getting rid of this problem for ever, without using any power banks. The new ‘Ultra Power Saving Mode’ in Galaxy S5 lets people stay connected to the world, despite having a very less juice left in the battery. It can be kept on stand-by for the days when in this mode without using the high power consumption features such as background data refresh, push notifications, WiFi & lots more.
S Health: The new phone features the S Health 3.0 with improved sensors & a better compatibility with newly launched Galaxy Gear 2 & Galaxy Fit smart watches which also have a heart rate monitor.
Private Mode & Kids Mode: These are the two new modes you can put your Galaxy S5 into – the kids mode is a need of the time indeed.
As expected in an upgrade, the Galaxy S5 is powered with a powerful hardware for the processor, wide-angle lens for the front camera, enhanced rear camera as mentioned above, 128GB external storage support & a slightly better battery power. Just that, it does not include a 3GB RAM that we all so wanted in a phone. Here is a list of specs:
