It’s not today when we first heard about this rumor. Nokia Normandy – Project N – a low-cost smart phone running Android KitKat 4.4.1 is actively under development at Nokia & will continue with it even after Microsoft finishes the acquisition procedures.

Another photo leak from @Evleaks on Twitter clearly shows the Nokia phone running Android, is a dual-SIM phone targeted for mass-audience. The interface seems highly influenced by Nokia Asha & Nokia N9 which had Meego. The phone might also feature a tight integration of Microsoft’s products like Skype, & SkyDrive.

With these recent leaks, it’s very much clear that the company is seriously considering one of the most popular mobile OS in recent times – a combination of Nokia’s hardware & Android which is imagined as an ‘ideal’ mobile handset.

This new Nokia’s Android phone is expected to release this year in 2014 & might also be accompanied by Nokia’s entry in wearable technology with ‘Nokia Smartwatch’.

Well, it doesn’t really stop here. Nokia Normandy (name is not final) phones are going to use the iconic Lumia series design on the outside, plenty of colors, with virtual-only buttons to navigate through the phone. While, the reports are suggesting it to be a low-cost phone, but if Nokia is also thinking about a smart watch – we can get to see more premium variations too in near future.

New Nokia RM-980 A110 running Android is likely to have following specifications:

  • 4 inches capacitive touch screen
  • 480 x 854px FWVGA display (approximately the 16:9 aspect ratio)
  • Snapdragon 200 chipset with Cortex A5 quad-core processor)
  • Android KitKat 4.4.1
  • 5 megapixel rear camera
  • 1GB RAM

Nokia Android with Metro UI Leaks

In another tweet, Evleaks posted a detailed view of the Metro UI that will be featured on the Nokia’s reported Android phone. As mentioned earlier, this phone will have a Lumia-like design & latest leaks also suggest a ported Metro UI like interface too. The UI clearly shows a home-screen with tiled interface & a toggle to show list of latest updates featuring notification center styled interface. Some people are also debating over this as, this new phone is featuring a Sailfish OS.

This most-awaited phone might see an announcement during the MWC 2014 in Barcelona, where other biggies such as Samsung Galaxy S5 will also be launched.

Nokia Normandy = Nokia X (Launch On February 24 In MWC?)

According to new information from Evleaks, the new Android / Sailfish phone from Nokia might just be named as Nokia X. This will make sure it stands on its own from the naming strategy of their Lumia phone series.

Nokia has already started distributing the press invites for their event on February 24, 2014 at the Mobile World Congress. The event will take place from 8.30 to 9.30am local time. The invite does not clearly mentions anything about the Normandy phone itself – however, this is aligning very well with the floating rumors about its launch. So yeah, we can say that Nokia X will see its launch during MWC 2014 — unless Nokia want to surprise us further by not actually doing it. Very unlikely though, let’s see.
